COVID-19 UPDATES

UPDATED: 09/03/21

Current trends in vaccine availability and vaccination rates indicate that by the time of the Annual Meeting, travel and public gatherings will be sufficiently safe to allow IAM to hold an in-person meeting. Add to that trend all of the precautions we will have in place, and we believe that the meeting will be as safe as possible for attendees. We are now also asking that all of our attendees be fully vaccinated before they attend the event. If you are not fully vaccinated and have registered for the event, our Risk-Free registration policy for in-person attendees is in full effect and you will be able to receive a full refund.

Given the above, everyone must make their own personal decision as to the safety in attending the IAM Annual Meeting & Expo. In the meantime, IAM will carefully monitor developments in the following areas:

 

  • Updated CDC guidelines, information and updates on large gatherings;
  • Immigration and Visa guidelines from the federal government;
  • Information regarding vaccine distribution in the U.S. and throughout the world;
  • All available data on COVID infection frequency, with a focus on Florida, where the meeting will be held; and
  • Our overarching philosophy that the safety of our attendees is going to the critical factor in all of our decision making

59th Annual Meeting & Expo Risk-Free Cancelation Policy (In-Person)

IAM is aware of the need for continued caution and concern for safety regarding COVID-19. We understand that health and safety, and their impact on meeting attendance, are of concern to our members. IAM is looking forward with confidence to the full resumption of business, both for our global membership and for the association, and we are committed to holding our 59th Annual Meeting & Expo on schedule, from October 13–16, 2021 in Orlando, Florida.

Please note that due to ongoing concern regarding the coronavirus, IAM will not charge a cancellation fee if you later decide not to attend our in-person event based on concerns around your health or travel. IAM will provide a full refund minus the cost of banking fees or credit card transaction fees.

Open Letter to the IAM Membership

The rumor mill has been in full swing in recent weeks that IAM plans to cancel our in-person Annual Meeting & Expo planned for October 13–16, 2021 in Orlando, Florida. The rumor is completely false! Both the in-person and the virtual aspects of the conference will move forward as planned.

Obviously, some unforeseen variables have surfaced, altering the trajectory of the pandemic recovery and thus people’s enthusiasm to attend an in-person event. We completely understand how and why the current realities stand as roadblocks for people thinking about registering to attend or have even pushed people to rethink their original decision to attend. Allow me to share why we are making this decision to move forward with the Annual Meeting.

  1. Safety: We believe we are able to conduct this Annual Meeting safely. IAM has done an exhaustive amount of research regarding how it can be accomplished, and we are committed to following and enforcing the proper safety guidelines necessary to protect our attendees. We are now also asking that all of our attendees be fully vaccinated before they attend the event. If you are not fully vaccinated and have registered for the event, our Risk-Free registration policy for in-person attendees is in full effect and you will be able to receive a full refund.
  2. Connection: A number of months ago, when we launched this effort, what we heard from the members was a resounding approval for the event. People expressed to us the real need for human interaction and the desire to venture out and physically engage with friends and colleagues. Most were excited to travel and to have an opportunity to emerge from their COVID-cocoons.
  3. Flexibility: For those who were unsure whether they could attend, IAM felt it was important to offer an opportunity to engage from home after the success of our first-ever Virtual Annual Meeting in 2020. Learning the lessons from the past 18 months, IAM was excited to innovate on our Annual Meeting by creating an event that included both in-person and virtual attendees.

For these reasons, the IAM staff and Executive Committee decided to move forward with our plans for a “Hybrid” (both in-person & virtual) event.
